Julia Kramer

October 29, 1932 — March 24, 2021

Julia Kramer, the beloved matriarch of our family, died on March 24, 2021. She was 88.

Born on October 29, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore LaDuca and Angelina Gianinino LaDuca of Sicily, Italy.

She graduated in 1950 from East New York Vocational High School, Brooklyn, NY. After high school, she worked as a clerk typist and in 1953 she married Louis Caruso. After the marriage ended, Julia got a job at a restaurant in JFK Airport where she met Irwin Kramer. They were married on December 26, 1963, in Alexandria, Va. In the 1970s, the family moved to Havre De Grace, Maryland. Julia supported Irwin’s career and was a caregiver to her children, often volunteering at their schools and in the community. In 1980, she served as a delegate for the Democratic National Convention.

Julia was an excellent storyteller and had an amazing sense of humor.  She loved traveling, listening to jazz music, completing crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, and cooking Italian meals for her family. She never missed sending a card for special occasions and signed them with elegant penmanship.

She is survived by her sister Jennie Calabro and her three sons Dennis Caruso (wife Laura), Stephen Caruso (wife Elise), and Keith Kramer (ex-wife Sa’adah). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christina Hafer, Angela Nickisch, Jacqueline Mikszan, James Lyles, Francesca Nishimoto, Stephen Caruso, Constance Caruso, Anisa Kramer, Ruqayah Kramer, Guilia Kramer, and Munirah Kramer as well as 14 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Julia’s life will be at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 5305 Jefferson Pike, Frederick, Maryland on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Private interment will be in Garrison Forest Veteran’s Cemetery in Owings Mills, Maryland.
