Ms. Lorie Lea Wood, 51, of Ijamsville, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in Dundalk, Maryland. She was the fiancé of Sohan Alvis of Ijamsville.

Born on April 21, 1964 in Fall River, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Leonard B. and June A. Wood. She was a 1982 graduate of Ledyard High School in Ledyard, Connecticut.

In her early years, her work experience included various office and administrative assistant positions which included a law office and the Georgia Pacific Paper Company in New London, CT. She was a security guard at Millstone Point Nuclear Power Station in Waterford, CT and a veteran relations coordinator and later, a procurement specialist for the VA Hospital in New Haven, CT. Lorie moved to Maryland in 1997 and was employed by the Baltimore VA hospital. In 2002 she worked for the National Institute for Mental Health and in 2006 for the Washington Group International in Gaithersburg.

Lorie loved collecting jewelry, clothing and shoe bargains that she found on the Internet, as well as taking photos of her family and friends with her cell phone. Lorie was devoted to her family and her many friends. She also loved her car, going camping with her parents, and taking care of her cat Sabrosa and her dog, Sammy.

Surviving in addition to her parents and fiancé Sohan, who works for Tyco Services(formerly ADT Security Systems in Rockville) are two sisters: Cheryl Wood in California, and Stacey Broome in East Baltimore; a nephew, Raymond "Trey" Broome(age 7) a niece Ryleigh Becraft (age 4 months), an uncle William Simons of Massachusetts, her future mother-in-law Delrene "Jini" Boyd of Rockville, a special, close cousin, Kathy Allen of Maine, as well as many other cousins in Maine and Massachusetts.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 AM on Wednesday, May 20, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd, Mt Airy, where a memorial service will begin at 11 AM with Pastor DD Adams of Providence United Methodist Church, Kemptown officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery at a later date and will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 3716 Kemptown Church Rd., Monrovia, MD 21770.

Arrangements are by Stauffer Funeral Home, Mt. Airy and Stauffer Crematory, Frederick.
