Zenaida Mateo Campos, 83 of New Market, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at her home.
Born on June 8, 1938, in the Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Ponciano Mateo and Maria Cabalhin. While living in the Philippines, she worked as a teacher. Upon moving to the United States, she worked in administrative positions. She was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Frederick until her illness prevented her from attending. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir. In addition to her love of singing, she enjoyed playing the piano, and dancing at parties. She took great pride in a pilgrimage she took to Lourdes, France.
She dearly loved her family. She is survived by her daughters, Mozelle Campos and partner Mark Wilkins and Hazel Campos-Braus and husband Scott Braus; grandchildren, Ian Micah Bondoc, DeShawn Cathey and wife Cynthia Serpas, Phoebe Braus, Zachary Braus, Francesca Braus and Rachel Braus; great-grandchildren, Lily Cathey, Amelia Cathey and Hadley Cathey; her siblings, Lydia Mateo Fife, Patria Mateo Prias, Leticia Mateo Salera, and Malou Mateo Stirman; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 2pm at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the church. Interment will follow.
