Yvonne Mae “Vonny” Zufall departed this earthly realm on Saturday April 20 2013 at the age of 99 years for her journey to Gods Heavenly Garden to join her loving husband John A. Zufall, who passed away in 1990.
Her siblings which predeceased her were her sister, Anita Jane Hoover; and brothers, Kirk Quiggan Hasson, Wayne Ray Hasson, and James Earl Hasson.
She is survived by daughters, Cindy Lee and husband Robert Lee Schmeltz of Middletown, and Nancy Lee and husband Howard Glenn Strine, and son Thomas Martin Zufall of Frederick. Also surviving family members include sisters, Frances Ruth "Fig" Gale, Marilyn Irene Eichensehr, Arlene Lee Merringer; her brother, Robert Edward Hasson; and various nephews and nieces and their children all in or near the Columbus, Ohio area.
Six Grandchildren include Nancy Lee and husband Robert "Robby" Long of Mt. Pleasant, Bonnie Lee and husband Forrest Hickling of Tulsa, OK, Sharon Lee and husband Dwayne "Skip" Clark of Middletown, Linda Lee Schmeltz and domestic partner Aaron Sherman and his children Dylan and Emily of Thurmont, Russell Eugene "Rusty" Strine and wife Sharon of Wolfsville and Wayne Thomas Strine and wife Carol of Street, Md.
Her Great Grandchildren include Christopher Clark and wife Nicole, Lindsay, Dwayne, Jesse and Adam Clark, Vance and Jenny Hickling, Colin Strine and wife Supunnee "Nui" and son Thanabordee "Not" Potijun, Megan and husband Jon Clemson, Austin, Garrett and Greer Strine. Her Great Great Grandchildren are Trinity and Tyler Clark, and Travis Clemson.
She was always an extraordinarily gracious, non judgmental, compassionate and friendly person whom and was instantly liked by everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her feelings toward people could be summarized by the plaque she placed on her living room wall which read - "Friends that plant kindness gather love".
Yvonne was the first of nine children born to Jennie and Ellis “Ed” Hasson in Columbus, Ohio and weighed in at less than 3 pounds, a "premature birth", which was in itself miraculous. After receiving her education at various schools in Columbus, and at the age of 19, she met Radio Personality "Happy Johnny" and soon married. "Vonny" was known to many people in different areas of the country as "The Gal", a name given to her by the Love of her Life. During their marriage of 56 years she entertained many audiences on stage with his various musical groups while playing the guitar, singing and yodeling. They also performed on radio stations located in Maryland, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and Florida.
After retiring as a remarkable entertainer and her other occupations which included Waitress, Hostess, Receptionist and Switchboard Operator she became an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at both the American Legion and Independent Hose `Company, and the Sackettes at Amvets Post 2. She volunteered at the Home for the Aged on Record Street where she was known as the "Sewing Lady" and as a Caregiver Companion. She managed to raise a family during this period of her life and easily made friends everywhere she happened to be. During her final years she resided at the Genesis HealthCare - Glade Valley Center in Walkersville MD. The family is very grateful to the entire staff for the professional care she received.
Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A Celebration of Her Life will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 26 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Harry C. Cole.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens on U.S. Rt. 15 North, Frederick.
