Willis "Red" Leggett, Sr.

Willis E. "Red" Leggett, Sr., 88, of Boonsboro, Maryland, died suddenly on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Born on January 26, 1923, he was the son of the late Clarence S. and Sallie E. (Swope) Leggett, Sr. His wife, Nettie Pearl (McCauley) Leggett preceded him in death in 2004.

Mr. Leggett retired in 1995 after 53 years with the Beachley Furniture Company in Hagerstown where he began as an employee in the mill room and later worked as a pattern maker and was promoted to the position of Foreman.

Red was an avid musician with a strong love for the guitar and he was the bandleader for the "Noveltones." He was also a member of the Purple Martin Conservation Association.

He is survived by his children, Willis E. Leggett, Jr. and and his wife Mary-Ann of Hagerstown, Gary L. Leggett and his wife Sandy of Sharpsburg, Maryland, Lonnie K. Leggett and his fiance' Karen of Boonsboro, Debra S. MacDonald and her fiance' Joe of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, Joseph D. Leggett and his wife Mary of Boonsboro, Jeffrey L. Leggett and his wife Krista of Boonsboro, and Donovan D. Leggett and his wife Cheryl of Aspers, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Leggett was preceded in death by his two sisters, Elvia Crum and Marguerite Gross; two brothers, Charles E. Leggett and Clarence A. Leggett, Jr.; and his grandson Aaron Lynn Leggett.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 12 noon on Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Rev. Dr. Larry Aikens will officiate. Burial will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.

Friends are invited to visit at the funeral home beginning at 12 noon on Sunday, January 30, 2011, where the family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
