Mrs. Willie Adelaide Murphy, 87, of Frederick, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012 at her residence. She the wife of the late Merhl Henry Thomas Murphy, who died in 1983.
Born on February 18, 1925 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late William Edgar and Stella Mae Roberts Shaff. She was a 1942 graduate of Frederick High School. Willie was a sales associate for JC Penny, retiring in 1988 after 22 years service; she also worked at Sagners Sewing Factory in Frederick. Willie was a Life Member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Women's Sunday School Class and the THEOS Group. Mrs. Murphy was very active in her community and was a member of: Feagaville Community Food and Friends, Ballenger Community Civic Association, Ballenger Grange # 341, Frederick County Pomona Grange # 11, Maryland State Grange, a Seventh Degree member of the National Grange, as well as a member of the Red Hatter of the Raven Belles. Willie was also a volunteer with FMH Select Seconds. In additional to her dedicated work with her church and grange, Willie enjoyed to sew, cook and bake; but mostly love spending time with her family, especially her only grandchild, Shay; as well as her beloved family pets, "Cutie Pie" and "Pie Face".
Surviving are two daughters: Kathy A. Main and husband Bob of Hagerstown and Sharon K. Murphy of Frederick; her granddaughter, Sharon "Shay" Heatherly of Frederick; sister-in-law Mary Alice Simmons of Hershey, PA; and a brother-in-law, Howard H. Murphy and wife Anna Mae of Urbana.
Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by three sisters: Catherine R. Willard, Dorothy P. Flook and Ruth C. Green.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 PM on Thursday, October 11, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where a Grange Memorial service will begin at 8:30 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 12, at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, 5462 Jefferson Pike, (Feagaville) Frederick, Md 21703, with Pastors Sandy Evans Rogers and Kenneth Gill officiating.
Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
