William Russell Koontz of Frederick, a WWII veteran who served his country in the Philippines, passed away peacefully June 6 at Washington County Hospital.
He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Thomas Koontz, in 2004.
He is lovingly remembered by his four children and their spouses: Erin Sue Lawrence (Gary), Lois L. Stumpf (Chuck), W. Thomas Koontz (Anita), Mark R. Koontz (Wanda);his grandchildren: Cori L. DeMoss (Matthew), Anne Stumpf, Stephen Stumpf,Alexa Koontz, Riggin Koontz, Payton Koontz, and one great grandchild,
Julie Hope DeMoss. He was looking forward to the birth in September of his great-grandson.
Additionally, he is survived by a host of siblings, several brothers and sisters-in law, many nieces and nephews, and is warmly remembered by sister Betty K. Easterday and his special friend, Lib Johnson.
Mr. Koontz was born in Middletown, raised in Jefferson,attended Frederick County Schools, and lived in Adamstown and Jefferson prior to moving to Frederick in 2001.
A life-long truck driver, he worked until December 2007 for Checkmate. He was a member of the Adamstown Volunteer Fire Department, Jefferson Fire Dept, a past member of the Jefferson Rotary Club, and was active in the Doubs United Methodist Church.
Visitation: Friends may call on Sunday June 8, 2008 from 3-9pm where the family will be present from 3-7pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday June 9, 2008 at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
