William Monroe Morris, Jr.

January 26, 1932 — August 16, 2008


Mr. William Monroe Morris, Jr., 76, of Martinsburg, WV, formerly of Mt. Airy died on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Martinsburg City Hospital, Martinsburg, WV.

He was the husband of Stella Nydia Early Morris, his wife of 54 years.

Born on January 26, 1932, in Black Mountain, NC, he was the son of the late William Monroe and Mary Louise Mull Morris.

William graduated from high school in Black Mountain in 1949 and then entered the U.S. Navy as a Fire Control Technician First Class, serving until 1958. He next was employed at Vitro Laboratories from 1958-68. In 1968 William opened Mare, Inc. in Frederick, serving area fisherman with boats and equipment until he sold the business in 1983.

He was a charter member of the Mt. Airy Baptist Church and served as a Deacon until 2003, when they moved to Martinsburg and he became an active member of Baker Heights Baptist Church. He was God's witness wherever he went.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 3 daughters: Sara M. Swetcharnik and husband William of Mt. Airy, Mary M. LeGore and husband Eric of Woodbridge, VA and Billie Eliza LaPlaca and husband Mark of Frederick; 4 grandchildren: Nicole L. Crouse and husband Travis, Eric D. LeGore, Bryan LaPlaca and Jenna LaPlaca; a brother, Charles H. Morris and wife Mary Ann of Texas; 3 sisters: Dorothy McMahon and husband Robert of Black Mountain, Josephine Shook of Glouster Point, VA and Marilyn Mizelle of Spotsylvania, VA.

Services: A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 19, at Baker Heights Baptist Church 580 Needy Rd., Martinsburg, WV.
Interment will be private.
