William L. Herron

William L. Herron, 85 of Frederick, Maryland passed away at the Northampton Manor Nursing Home on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 after a long illness. He was married to Naomi Schildwachter Herron for 62 3/4 years.

Bill was born February 8, 1922 in Housatonic, Massachusetts, the son of the late William C. and Mary Varney Herron and grew up in Austerlitz, NY where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and baseball. He served in the US Army from 1942-1946, later earning both B. A. and M.A.degrees in Mechanical Engineering from NYU. For many years he was a Design Engineer for the Singer Sewing Machine Company, where he was awarded more than 16 patents, including several for their Touch and Sew and one of their first electronic sewing machines. He spent four years as Director of the Research and Development Division at one of Singer's largest plants in Clydebank, Scotland. It was here that he developed his passion for golf and a love of travel. Bill and Naomi have visited every continent, but Austrailia. After retirement, he continued to work as a consultant for Trine Access Control in Bronx, NY, earning at least another five patents for electronic locks. He also became interested in income tax preparation and was Enrolled to practice before the IRS. He headed an H & R Block tax office in Elizabeth, NJ and eventually started his own tax practice, which he ran through 2006.

Always active in the church, over the years he has served in almost every capacity. He was most recently a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Germantown, Maryland. He was also active in the Worman's Mill Conservancy and is a member of the Elks.

In addition to his loving wife, Naomi, he is survived by a son, William Herron, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Springdale, Ohio, a daughter Ruth Anne Horak and husband David of Gaithersburg, MD and a daughter, Janet Eileen De Monaco and husband Louis of Clarkston, Michigan, a brother Robert Herron of New York and five grandchildren, Stephen A. Horak and fiancee Jennifer Pricola, Craig A. Horak and wife Jessica, Matthew R. Herron, Philip A. De Monaco and Rayshood R. Herron

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, March 30, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

Services: Funeral Services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 13901 Clopper Road, Germantown, MD on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 11:00 AM with Pastor R. Burk Hill officiating.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Interment will be private
