Mr. William E. Crone, of Frederick, died on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at the Vindobona Nursing Home, Braddock Heights. He is survived by his wife of 50 plus years Jean P. ( Oland ) Crone.
Born on November 5, 1930 in Frederick, he was a son of the late Charles Crone and Blanche ( Shull ) Crone Tracey.
Mr. Crone attended Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick. He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Marines having served in the Korean War. Bill was employed as a lineman with Potomac Edison Company, retiring after 39 � years of service.
He was an accomplished Baseball player and was recruited for spring training with the Baltimore Orioles. He also played for Ijamsville and the Old Timers of Frederick. Mr. Crone was an experienced sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing , golf and the outdoors in general.
He loved animals especially his Girls ( dogs ) .
Surviving beside his wife are 2 daughters; Bethany Vandervoort of NJ, Patricia Goetz and husband Terry of Frederick, 2 sons; C. Bruce Crone of CA and William E. Crone, II of Reisterstown, 8 grandchildren; Kimberly Cross, Richard W. Harris, Terry E. Goetz, Jr, Sandra Goetz, Oliver S. Goetz, Katie C. Goetz, Eric Crone and Amanda Crone and 13 great-grandchildren. Bill will also be missed by his many friends and co-workers of Potomac Edison and his Roy Rogers Breakfast Club .
He was preceded in death by his brother Charles Crone.
Visitation:
The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike,
Frederick, on Sunday, September 28th, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dave Oravec officiating. Interment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
