Mr. William Bill Staley, 81 passed away peacefully at his home in Mountaindale surrounded by his family on Friday, December 4.
He was the husband of the late Blanche Edna Smith Staley who died August 14, 1997. Born July 2, 1928 in Frederick, he was the son of Harry C. and Laura B. Staley of Bloomfield.
After graduating from Frederick High School in 1946, Bill joined the U.S. Merchant Marines serving aboard the SS Mount Whitney as a Cook's Helper.
Bill was employed at the Price Electric Corporation from January 1951 until September 1961.
Bill fulfilled his life long dream, when he joined the State of Maryland Natural Resources Police in September 1961. He retired from the DNR with the rank of Sergeant, as Field Supervisor for Frederick and Washington counties on December 31, 1990.
Serving as Hunter Safety Hall of Fame in 2005. He had taught the Hunter Safety course for 34 years.
Bill was a Life member of the National Rifle Association, Life member of the Lewistown Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Lewistown Ruritan Club. A life member of the Cold Deer Hunting and Fishing Club, where he was past President and a member of the Board of Directors.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoors man.
Surviving him is one son Robert Bob William Staley and wife Linda of Foxville. Granddaughter Stacie M. Foltz and husband Danny of Hagerstown. Grandsons William P. and Robert J. Staley, both of Foxville. Also surviving is his sister Mary-Margaret Myers of Frederick and a special friend, Mary Esther Rippeon.
He was predeceased by two brothers Bernard H. Staley of Urbana and Larry B. Staley of Bloomfield. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Sunday, December 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
Services:
Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 7 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Katie Penick of Faith United Church of Christ officiating.
Interment will be immediately following the celebration of hi life at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
