Frederick

William "Bill"Joseph Workman, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at home after a brief but fierce battle with esophageal cancer at the age of 73. Surrounded by his loved ones, Bill faced his final days with strength, dignity, and his characteristic sense of humor.

Born in Pottsville, PA, on August 7, 1951, Bill was the son of the late Joseph L. Workman and Rita A. (Lynagh) Workman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald J. Workman. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth "Beth" Travis (Jack) Travis, ex-wife and close friend, Tina Workman, and his three children: Christopher (Vicky), Robert "Bobby" (Amanda), and Noelle "Pepper" Workman. He also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: Isaiah, Mikayla, and Scarlett.

Bill graduated from DeMatha High School in 1969 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from the University of Notre Dame in 1973. In 1979, he made Frederick, MD, his home, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

Professionally, Bill worked for Hanover Shoes for 20 years as both a store manager and district manager. He then transitioned to automobile sales. 22 of his 30 years in automobile sales were spent with Shockley Honda in Frederick. Bill's dedication to his work and the people he helped is remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Bill was a die-hard Washington Commanders fan with a sharp wit and a love for crossword puzzles. He was known for his logical approach to life and he could always be counted on for a clever remark, and a sly smile. His favorite place to travel to was Ireland, where he loved connecting to his Irish roots.

Bill was a long time parishioner at St. Katharine Drexel on Opossumtown pike.

Details will be announced as they are finalized.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bill’s memory to the American Cancer Society, a cause that was close to his heart.

The family would like to thank Assisting Hands Home Care of Frederick and Frederick Health Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Bill. With immense gratitude to Assisting Hand caregivers Jariatu and Fidellia who helped make his last days peaceful.

Bill will be deeply missed but forever loved by all who had the privilege to know him.
