William Lee Smith

William Lee “Bill” Smith, 86, of Boonsboro, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Doey’s House, after a long illness.

Born on October 18, 1938 in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Benjamin Leo Henrietta May Fultz Smith. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, of 59 years, Joyce R. Smith.

Bill was a 1956 graduate of Boonsboro High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was employed by Mack Truck, Inc. for 28 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boonsboro. Bill was a member of the American Legion Clopper-Michael Post #10 of Boonsboro, Hagerstown Elks Lodge #378, a lifetime member of Amvets Post #10 of Hagerstown, as well as Boonsboro Fire Department and Boonsboro Ambulance Club.

Bill enjoyed the outdoors, Civil War, and metal detecting. His hobbies were jewelry-making, blacksmithing, and gunsmithing. In his spare time, he was very sociable and loved talking to his buddies and everyone at Collector’s Corner of St. James.

He is survived by his son, Todd W. Smith, of Boonsboro; granddaughter, Andrea M. Miller (Preston), of Hagerstown; grandson, Eric W. Smith, of Funkstown; and great-grandson, Rhett W. Miller, of Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin J. Smith, of Boonsboro; and sisters, Margaret McCleaf, of Blue Ridge Summit, PA and Nancy Harris of Sunset Beach, NC.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro with Chaplain Robert Fraley officiating. Interment will be at the Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home.
