William Louis Shiflett, age 90, beloved husband, father, and American Patriot passed from this life on Thursday, January 26, 2023 while resting peacefully at his home in Monrovia, Maryland.
Lou is a Washington D.C. native, born on September 2, 1932. He was the son of the late John B. Shiflett and Elizabeth (Williams) Shiflett.
He was a loving husband of 21 years to Margie Dexter Shiflett and the late Catherine Foster.
Lou attended Eastern High School, he actively participated and excelled in Baseball and Football. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper then Sounder during the Korean conflict. Lou's honor for his country and servitude for others was matched with his quick-minded wit and his outgoing people skills. His career in sales spanned over 4 decades as he worked for both Parker Corporation and The Merchandizer Newspaper. Lou had a long-time active membership at Providence United Methodist Church and New Market Lions Club where his contribution focused upon helping others. Lou with his wife Margie traveled throughout the world visiting over 40 counties and 26 states.
In addition to his wife, Margie Dexter Shiflett, he is survived by survived by 11 stephchildren, 24 grandchildren and 27 great granchildren. Surviving step-children include, Michael Foster, Kevin Foster, Timothy Foster, Daniel Foster, Kathleen Foster Fominaya, Patricia Foster Mumford, Anne Foster Seek and the late Patrick Foster, Kristina Dexter Dorney, Laura Dexter Pritchard and Jennifer Dexter Kline. They will always carry a loving memory of William Louis Shiflett in their hearts.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 8 East Ridgeville in Mt. Airy, MD. 21771.
A celebration of William's life will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Providence United Methodist Church, 3735 Kemptown Church Road in Monrovia, MD. Pastor DD Adams will officiate. Interment will be at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.
