OBITUARY, William DeVries Sampselle
Reverend William DeVries Sampselle, son of the late William F. and Gladys S. Sampselle, beloved husband of Joan Sampselle for 65 years, passed away on May 15 after a protracted illness following his 88 th birthday. Rev. Sampselle graduated from McKinley Tech H.S. in Washington, D.C., the University of Maryland, and Duke Divinity School. He served as a Methodist minister in the Baltimore and Washington districts for 40 years, retiring in 1984.
He is survived by his wife Joan; five children [Joy Murray and husband Ron; David Sampselle and wife Kathy; Alane Haynes and husband Kerry; Bonnie Meeks and husband George; and Melodie Ann]; six grandchildren [Cara, Sara, John, Dirk, Ben, and Emily], and two great-grandchildren [Naomi and Cali]. He enjoyed reading and traveling, and particularly enjoyed fine coffee and chocolate, which he generously shared with his family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Salvation Army. Family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opposumtown Pike, Frederick, MD on Thursday, May 19, from 2 to 4 pm, and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20, at 1 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel.
