William Russell “Russ”Robertson Jr. was born on April 3, 1934, to the lateWilliam Russell Robertson,Sr. and the late Evelyn Earson Robertson of Cumberland, MD. He peacefully passed
away on October 4, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Hospital while surrounded by his family.
He graduated from Alleghany High School in Cumberland, MD in 1952 where he played Varsity
Baseball and Basketball. He obtained a teaching degree from Frostburg College in 1956. He did graduate work at Western Maryland College, University of Maryland, and George Washington University. After graduation, he served two years active duty in the U.S. Army while stationed
at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, where he served as a Medic Specialist. Russ
began his teaching career inMiddletown, MD from 1959-1964. He then transferred to
Montgomery County Public Schools in 1965, where he taught Special Education,
Driver’s Education, and coached several team sports, before retiring in 1995. He
also worked summers as a Park Ranger for the C&O Canal from 1960-1969.
Included in his affiliations were the Cumberland chapters of Demolays, Shriners and
Masons. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Frederick, MD, and also a
charter member of the Urbana Fire Department. Russ enjoyed his dogs,
trains, cars, and working on his home, but his true passion was always his family. For
48 years he was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Jean Ross Robertson.
Russ’ life centered around his wife, their four children and their spouses, and eleven
beautiful grandchildren. He is survived by daughter Heather Robertson Houck,
her husband Chuck Houck and their children, Madison, Robbie, Jason and Zachary
Houck; daughter Shawn Robertson Arnold and her husband Matthew Arnold
and their two daughters, Jackie and Myra Arnold: son Russ Robertson and his wife
Jessica Robertson and their three children, Derek, Kirstin, and Haylie Robertson; son
Shane Robertson and his wife, Jennifer Robertson and their sons, Blake and Brody
Robertson, and his faithful Labrador Retriever, “Jake”. Services will be held at
Stauffer’s Funeral Home in Frederick, MD on Opossumtown Pike. Visitation will be
held from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Monday, October 8, 2012. Memorial Services will be
held at Stauffer’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 10 am. Internment
will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery immediately following the service. To honor
