William Mellott

William Gary Mellott, 74, of Monrovia, Maryland, passed away on June 2, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with small cell lung cancer. He was the husband of 54 years to Sue Dianne (Drinkard) Mellott.

Born on September 14, 1943, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late William Sherman and Helen Louise (Martin) Mellott. Gary was a 1961 graduate of Williamsport High School and an Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Local Steamfitters Union #602 for 50 years. He enjoyed golfing and spending his time outdoors. He was also an avid sports fan and would have loved watching the Washington Capitals win the Stanley Cup! GO CAPS! He was best known for his selfless spirit and desire to always lend a hand to anyone in need. Gary was fortunate even at the end to help others, he was able to be an organ donor and give someone else the gift of sight.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Robin Whitney Mellott, Paula Joell Carney, Jennifer Dawn Webster and husband Paul; six grandchildren, William Harris Tucker and wife Melanie, Shane Alan Tucker, Rachel Dianne Kern and husband Andrew, Peter Riley Gillard, Matthew Lee Carney and Grace Catherine Gillard; four great-grandchildren, William Tucker, McKinley Kern, Reagan Kern and Evelyn Tucker; and his siblings, Cynthia Mellott and Russell Mellott and wife Lee; brother and sisters-in-law; Cary Drinkard, Jane Bussey, Gail Taherian and husband Qasim, Wilma Drinkard and Karen Drinkard; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
