William “Coach Mac” McIn
Between the Dash (1949-2016)

There were two things Coach Mac was most passionate about … football and family.  He graduated from Phillipsburg Catholic H.S. before attending Millersville University, graduating with a B.A. in History.  He married his high school sweetheart (Peggy Mangan) and started a family.  As a young college graduate, he became a Father of two daughters and trusted mentor of four teens.

His first job out of college was as a history teacher at Linganore High School, where he made many lifelong friendships and relationships with staff and students alike.  He was one of three individuals who started the Linganore football program and coached there for over a quarter of a century.  During his time there, he worked as a Varsity Defensive Coordinator, Offensive Line Coach, and Head Coach for seven years.  In 1989 and 1991, Linganore won championships in the State 3A division.  In 1995, as head coach, Mac led Linganore to victory in the 2A state championship.  He received the MD State Football Association’s Coach of the Year, Class 2A.  During his coaching career, he also coached one year at Brunswick, three years at Frederick, five years at Catoctin, and one year at Walkersville before going to Middletown from 2009 to 2014.

While he has had many accolades as a coach and teacher, inspiring hundreds of young minds, he will be most remembered as Father, Husband, Uncle, Grandpa and In-Law.  He was surrounded by family at the time and is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy McIntosh, two daughters, Jennifer McIntosh and Heather Thorn, son-in-law John Thorn, granddaughter Aven Thorn, five brothers-in-law, Joe Mangan, Alan Bauch, Charles Mangan, David Geltman, James Mangan, three sisters-in-law, Barbara McIntosh, Laurie Bauch, Laura Mangan.  In addition, Mac was survived by four nephews, David McIntosh, Kevin Bauch, Daniel Mangan-Geltman, Thomas Mangan, three nieces, Maddy Mangan, Dorothy Barker and Carrie Fess.

Coach Mac died after a 15 month battle with cholangiocarcinoma on March 28th.  Mac was preceded in death by his brother Daniel, his mother Mary and his father Daniel.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 1st from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral home in Boonsboro, MD.  A memorial mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 2nd at St. James Catholic Church in Boonsboro, MD.
