Mr. William “Bill” Blair McDermid , 85, of Frederick , MD passed away peacefully at Frederick Memorial Hospital on Monday, August 26, 2013. Born April 1, 1928, in New York City, he was the son of the late Mary Scully and Walter MacDermid . He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Anne Russo McDermid . In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard McDermid and wife Terry, and a daughter, Laura Poole and husband Fred; one sister, Rita Conway ; and six wonderful grandchildren, Erica, Tim, Adam, Alex, Brian, and Kelly . In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Blair Walter MacDermid, and one sister Ann Brown .During WWII, Bill served in the Navy as a medical corpsman and was stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital. After the war, he returned to his home in NY only to return to Maryland in 1966 when he moved his family to Frederick. He worked for many years in Hospital Management, starting out as a Purchasing Agent for Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, and retiring as the Director of Materials Management at Howard County General Hospital. In between, he worked for 18 years at Bon Secours Hospital, also in Baltimore. He was a member of the American Legion, and had many interests in life which included playing Bridge and Poker, lunching with the “Over the Hill Gang”, camping, coin collecting, stamp collecting, and reading. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at St . John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 116 East Second Street, Frederick , MD. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center , 1920 Rosemont Avenue, Frederick , MD 21702. Funeral arrangements are entrusted with Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., and Stauffer Crematory , Inc., Frederick , MD.
