Mr. William Carlyle Herron, 94, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away , Thursday, August 20, at Somerford House with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Shirley Hintzelmann Herron. They were married 56 years.
Born July 7, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Carlyle and Florence Herron.
William was a WWII Army Veteran having proudly served his country with the 125th Armored Engineer Battalion/540th Engineer Combat Regiment. He was employed with DFI in Ohio before moving to Rockville, MD, where he worked as a graphic artist for Vitro Corporation until retiring in 1986. He enjoyed traveling to all parts of Europe and for leisure, he enjoyed woodworking, golf and bowling. He also did extensive artwork and participated in all alumni functions for the 540th Engineer Combat Regiment.
He is survived by his son William C. Herron, Jr. and wife Susan, grandson Robert William Herron, niece Melissa Krempasky and husband Lou, great niece Sarah, great nephews Jonathan and Alex, of Westerville, Ohio. Also surviving, his nephew Matthew Herron and his two children Kristin and Alayna Herron. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert L. Herron.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD., Tuesday August 25, from 10:00 am until service time at 12:00 Noon.
Interment Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Montgomery County Humane Society or the American Legion, Post 68, Rockville, Maryland
