William Rueben Goode, 88, of Frederick, died peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Edenton Retirement Center in Frederick. He was the 44 year husband of Jacqueline Louise Fogle Goode who died in 1999.
Born on January 31, 1936, in Charles Town, WV, he was the son of the late Virgil W. Good and Minnie Hough Good.
Soon after attending Frederick High School, Bill began a 30 year employment at Acme Markets, Inc., retiring in 1984. While at Acme Bill received several awards for outstanding service. After retiring from Acme, he began working for Frederick County Public Schools as a warehouse specialist where he was also honored with several awards before retiring in 2008.
Bill served his country for three years in the U.S. Army; while stationed at Fort Stewart, GA he was awarded for outstanding performance of duty as a military policeman. After Fort Stewart, Bill served a tour of duty in Korea where he was nominated soldier of the month. He was a member of American Legion Post 11. Bill was also a member of the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren for more than 60 years. He was an avid bowler, having bowled in local leagues for over 50 years where he had many friends. Bill loved his Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins. A strong Republican, he often stated that he thought Ronald Reagan was one of the greatest presidents in history. Bill loved to laugh and make other laugh. He enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Bill will be missed by his friends a Massers Restaurant.
Bill and Jackie were blessed with two children: Billie Jean Easton and husband Mike of Frederick and William R Goode, Jr. and girlfriend Christie Bowman of Frederick; a grandson, Jeffery Scott Baker and wife Madison of Frederick and one great-grandson, Grey McEwen Baker. Bill will also be missed by his companion for more than 15 years, Joyce Sigler; as well as his remaining sisters: Jean Fender and husband Wayne of Middleburg and Donna Nunn and husband Wilkie of Frederick. Bill's four legged friend Fluffy will also miss him. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorcus Main and husband Robert and Anna Main and husband Sam.
The family will receive friends from 9-10 AM on Friday, April 5, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where his funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM with Rev. Wilkie Nunn officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
