Mr. William “Pud” Thomas Gibson, 62, of Hagerstown, Maryland, died Monday, January 3, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Born May 28, 1948, in Frederick, Maryland. He was the son of the late William and Gloria Weedon Gibson.
Mr. Gibson received his education in the Frederick County Public Schools. From high school, he joined the United States Army in December 1966; he served in Viet Nam War and because of his faithful performance of duty, he was Honorably Discharged in February 1979. Once he left the United States Army, he was employed for many years with the International Local 891 Cement Masonry of Washington Metropolitan Area. Local 891 was one of the first locals who helped to construct the Washington, D.C. and Tyson Corner metro subway.
Surviving are: a son, Marco Terrel Gibson, Sr., Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one daughter, Delores Gaines and husband Dominique of Newport News, Virginia; one brother, Merhl W. (“Tookum”) Gibson and wife Joan of Frederick; one sister, Patricia A. Parker of Fort Washington; six grandchildren: Marco T. Gibson, Jr. of Frederick; Keenan, Tatianna, Tajanae, Dominique and Nelson Gaines of Newport News, Virginia; two nephews: Namar Luby and Dwayne Gibson, both of Frederick; two nieces: Tamika L. Farmer and husband Adrian of Yucaa Valley, California and Erica L. Parker of Fairfax, Virginia; one uncle Adolphus Weedon and wife Margarita of Hagerstown, Maryland and numerous cousins.
Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. William and Mrs. Gloria Weedon Gibson; one brother, Adolphus (“Teddy”) E. Gibson; one uncle, Godgrey T. Weedon, two aunts: Emine Layer and husband Addison and Veronica Ingram and husband Jake.
The family will receive friend from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 12, until the time of the service at Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick, Maryland. Bishop Merle Lyles will be officiating.
