Mr. William E. “Bill” Gartner, Jr., 68, of Monrovia, MD., died suddenly on Wednesday, September 14, 2011. He was the husband of Brenda Hahn Gartner, his wife of 13 years.
Born July 31, 1943 in Takoma Park, MD., he was the son of the late William E., Sr. and Marietta Crawford Gartner.
Mr. Gartner was a profession Firefighter in Montgomery County for over 26 years. He played softball on the Montgomery County Fireman’s League. He was a member of the Wildlife Achievement Chapter, Inc. of The Isaac Walton League of America. Bill had a passion for hunting, fishing, dancing, tennis and sports in general. He enjoyed gardening and spending time at his winter home in Florida.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Deborah Coates of Brunswick, Kimberly Rhodes of Mt. Airy, his wife’s children Sheri Munn and husband Phillip of Sykesville, Paige Kline and husband Tim of Littlestown, PA , Kelly Gass and husband Paul of Mt. Airy, his grandchildren Andrew Coates, Alexandra Coates, Juliana Coates, Rachel Munn, Lcpl Jacob Kline, Stephanie Gass and Michelle Gass, his sister Joan Broomall and Phillip, nephew Tom Broomall and wife Amy and their children. He will also be remembered by his special friends D.J. Mandeville and wife Christine and their daughter Sierra. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Gartner.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy on Monday, September 19, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., where service will be held Tuesday, September 20, at 10:00 am with Rev. Jennifer Karsner officiating.
Interment Parklawn Cemetery, Rockville.
