Mr. William "Bill" Thomas Duffey, 82 of Boonsboro, MD, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Washington County Hospital. He was the husband of Thelma Jones Duffey.
Born May 10, 1926 In Hagerstown, MD he was the son of the late Otho and Alice Summers Duffey.
Mr. Duffey attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Hagerstown and went on to serve his country during WWII in the U. S. Air Force. He retired as a truck driver for Southern States Petroleum Corp., after 30 years of service. Bill was a member of St. James Catholic where he served as corporator for 30 yrs. He was also a member of the Boonsboro American Legion Post 10. After retirement he enjoyed traveling, fishing, and rose gardening.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four children, Wayne Duffey, Sr. and wife Jo Ann of Boonsboro, Allen Duffey , Kevin Duffey and wife Sandy, all of Hagerstown and Cheryl Swope of Greencastle, PA.; four grandchildren, Wayne Duffey, Jr. of Boonsboro, William "Billy" Duffey of Funkstown, Stephanie Palmer and Tyler Duffey both of Hagerstown; four great-grandchildren, Kristi Duffey, Chad Duffey, Leah Palmer and Brynnleigh Palmer; one sister, Joan Kemp of Martinsburg, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Murphy.
The family will receive friends at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, on Monday, March 16, from 6 to 8 P.M., where services will be held Tuesday, March 17, at 11:00 A.M. with Father Stephen Hook officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
