William Peter Donley

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Donley. He unexpectedly passed peacefully of natural causes on June 26, 2023 leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. His departure has left a void that can never be filled, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on March 4, 1947, Bill brought joy and warmth into the lives of his family and friends. He was a beloved spouse of nearly 50 years to his wife, Linda, parent to his daughters, Stephanie (& Paul) and Shannon (& Kody), brother to his siblings, Artie Donley (& Clinton), Bob Donley (& Christine), and Anne Dougherty, brother-in-law to Elsie Donley and Bill Evans and a dear friend to many. Perhaps his most valued “title” was Papa - he was a grandfather to Leah (15), Kelton (13), Noa (5), and Carter (1). He touched the lives of countless individuals with his big heart, compassionate nature, and infectious fun-loving spirit. 

He is preceded in death by his brother, Harry Donley and sister, Barbara Evans.

Bill earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from New York Institute of Technology in 1969, and went on to have a fruitful career spanning more than 25 years with IBM. After an early retirement from IBM, his career evolved into software testing with several companies, with his career culminating with the IRS.

Bill was a car enthusiast. His pride and joy was his 1966 Mustang, which he bought in the 1990’s, fixing it up over the years and rebuilding the engine. Bill took his Mustang to many, many car shows over the decades, accumulating countless trophies and awards. His last day of his life was spent at his favorite local cruise-in, leaning against the hood of his Mustang while chatting with friends and perusing the many impressive antique vehicles. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 2, 2023 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21702.  A Celebration of Life service will follow at the funeral home on Monday, July 3, 2023 at 10:00am.  With interment immediately after at All Souls Cemetery in Germantown, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the charity of your choice.
