Frederick

William “Bill” Joseph Coffey, 77, of Frederick, MD passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 30, 1948, in Geneva, NY, Bill was a graduate of DeSales High School, Class of 1965. That same year, he began his career at International Paper, where he worked until 1979. In 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ellen Carroll, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished family memories.

In 1979, Bill and Mary Ellen moved to York, PA, where he served as plant manager at CorBox, Inc. until 1995. He then relocated to Macungie, PA, becoming an owner of Impress Packaging, a role he embraced until his well-earned retirement in 2012. Bill and Mary Ellen then settled in Fort Myers, FL, where he enjoyed being a member of Fiddlesticks Country Club.

An avid outdoorsman, Bill was passionate about fishing and proudly won the 1971 National Lake Trout Derby on Seneca Lake, NY. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Nester Hose Volunteer Fire Department in Geneva, NY.

Above all, Bill was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Ellen; his three children: son Bill and wife Joanna Coffey, daughter Michele and husband Bernie Kavanagh, and daughter Alyson and husband Tom Samburg; and his ten adored grandchildren: Caitlin, Holly, Taylor, and Tommy Coffey; Zach, Emily, and Brody Kavanagh; and Charlie, Cole, and Molly Samburg. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Coffey and wife Paula, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Bill lived life to the fullest, bringing humor, laughter, and love to everyone he met. He found joy in golf, fishing, and, most of all, spending time with his family.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Frederick Health Hospice and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Bill’s legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
