Mr. William Joseph "Billy" Burras, 72, longtime Frederick resident, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at his sister's home in Thurmont.
Born May 23, 1942 in Mt. Airy, he was the son of the late William and Florence Burras, and loving brother to Joann Burras McGlenn.
Billy was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bowling, playing football in his younger years at Baker Park, pitching softball, and cheering on the Redskins and Orioles. He also loved hot rod cars in his youth. He was a longtime employee of N.I.H.
Billy was the longest living person to survive a heart transplant. Additionally, he received a kidney from his sister 15 years ago.
In addition to his sister, he is survived by a daughter, Eugenia Deutsch of Allentown, PA., and a nephew, Harry Witmer and wife, Debra, of Littlestown, PA.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where services will begin at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Tim May.
Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
