William Wesley Burnette

William Wesley Burnette, 64, of Jefferson, MD passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, surrounded by his family, at Frederick Health Hospital, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born February 5, 1960, in Richmond, VA. He was the son of Lilburn R. Burnette and Joyce K. Samuel. He was preceded in death by his father, Lilburn R. Burnette and stepfather, John A. Snyder.

William retired from 40 years of service as a Building Official for The City of Gaithersburg. He was an avid saltwater fisherman and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 42 years, Adonna Ruth (Hurt) Burnette, whom he married on May 22, 1982; his daughter, Melissa Adonna Murphy and husband, Michael, of Jefferson, MD; his son, Brandon Nathaniel Burnette and partner, Rachel Cody, of Middletown, MD, his grandchildren, Abagail, Lorelei and Gabriel Murphy of Jefferson, MD; and his mother, Joyce K. Samuel, of Jefferson, MD, stepmother, Rosetta Burnette, of Newville, PA; stepsister, Clarissa Herr and husband, Kirby, of Carlisle, PA; and numerous cousins.

William’s wishes were to be cremated by Stauffer Funeral Home and no service to follow. William will wait to be joined by his loving wife for an ash spreading ceremony on the river, where he grew up, where he and his wife shared some of their favorite memories and taught his children and friends to enjoy the salt life. A private family celebration of life and one of his favorite activities to be held on a fishing charter.
