Mr. William “Bill” C. Birely, 91, of Ellicott City, MD., passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, April 26, 2011.  He was the husband of the late Luelle Avis Langness Birely.

Born November 13, 1919 in Thurmont, MD., he was the son of the late Victor M. and Dorothy Grace Rouzer Birely.

Mr. Birely was an investment banker for his entire life.  He was employed  as V.P. for Folger, Nolan, Inc., was founder and president of Birely & Co. ( later acquired by Legg Mason),  Lang & Co., Chapin Davis, V.P.and Director of The Thurmont Bank (now Bank of America).  Bill ended his career as a broker and consultant at Lang & Company, Division of Moors & Cabot, Inc. in Alexandria, VA. He was on the Board of Directors for Hearts and Homes for Youth,  a member of the inaugural  commission  for Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan and Bush, a member of the Montgomery County Council, a life member of the American Legion, the Society of Mayflower Descendants, and a life member Society Colonial Wars 1812 .

He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends.

A private family graveside service will be held Friday, April 29, at 12:00 Noon at the Blue Ridge Cemetery, Altamount Avenue, Thurmont, MD with Rev. Dot Lundgren officiating.
