William Sylvester Banner Sr., of Frederick died on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at Frederick Memorial Hospital
Born on April 11, 1938 in Frederick, MD he was the son the late Clement A. Banner and Beulah Banner.
William, who was known by many as “Bill” or “Peanie”, attended school in Frederick County and graduated from Lincoln High School. He later joined the United States Navy and retired after 22 years of service. In addition to serving in the military, he was also employed by Pritchard Industries, Inc., Eastalco Aluminum Company and Frederick County Public Schools.
William was a faithful servant of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Brunswick, MD. He served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board and held other various offices in his local church and organizations. His big smile and warm heart will be deeply missed by many. Whether members of his bowling team, fishing buddies, coworkers, employees or complete strangers, he made a life changing impact on everyone he met.
William was preceded in death by daughter Tonya S. Banner and son William S. Banner Jr. He leaves to cherish his loving memory; children Clement M. Banner and his fiance’ Faatimah Mary York, Kristinena Carroll, Ashley Gardiner, and Starr Gardiner; three grandchildren Lynette A. Samuels, Javier J. Banner, and Eyanna N. Gradney; three great-grandchildren Rylano Weigant, Layla Weigant, and Jasiyona Samuels; one brother Clement M. Banner and wife Carolyn, one aunt Estelle Belt, one uncle James Smothers and wife Cynthia, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He will also be dearly missed by long time companion Verlia M. Carter and family.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, September 21, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 26 W. J Street, Brunswick, MD from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 22, at Jackson Chapel UMC, 5609 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD, viewing at 10 a.m. and the funeral at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, 11501 Garrison Forest Rd., Owings Mills, MD 21117 on Thursday, September 25, at 1:45 PM.
