William Harvey Amos, Jr.

1939 — 2024

Tampa, FL

LTC William H. Amos Jr, PhD (retd.) passed away peacefully on October 7, 2024, at the age of 84.

Dad was in a wonderful comfort care home in Frederick, Maryland for a few months prior to his passing. Family were regularly able to visit to ensure his strict, but loving, routine was always in order. The nearby pond seemed to be his favorite adventure, admiring the wildlife and community that was abundant. A family of ducks made a nest at the care home which were local celebrities. However, a few squirrels wreaked havoc daily on Dad’s bird feeder which was always an amusing conversation.

In the last few years, he was able to do some memorable trips with family and friends – a cruise through the Panama Canal, a picturesque train trip through Canada, and a trip down memory lane to the family farm in Missouri.

We learned so many things from Dad (and, Mom, of course ).

· Always be there for family and friends. This is the priority, and nothing is too much. Attend your kid’s games, coach their teams, help with the homework, have dinner together.

· Family & friends don’t ask for a ride from the airport, they know you will be there to pick them up.

· Take your grandkids for a month every summer so the cousins can get to know each other and enjoy time in Florida.

- Memories traveling with Family are worth more than any monetary/physical gift will provide

· Always be curious and challenge yourself. Take every opportunity to pursue education.

· Integrity matters. Service matters. And being respectful is a must.

We were all fortunate to have been loved by Dad (Bill). The best way to describe him is a beautiful Hawaiian Dole Pineapple. Spiky and tough on the outside, but soft and sweet to all his family/friends on the inside. Ginny, red wine (occasional tequila shot), cheese, and family were the keys to him cracking a smile and revealing his sweet personality.

He was truly a kind soul who was always there for you, even if he might not have agreed with you, he would be there for you. Hopefully, we will all be able to honor him throughout our lives by serving our communities, supporting family and friends unconditionally, remaining curious, and maintaining a willingness to learn.
