Wilda Kathryn (Kay) Shafer
Kay lost her brief battle against bone cancer and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 11, 2008. She was married to Ronald W. Shafer for 44 years.
Kay was born on September 2, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Willard S. and Kathryn Zimmerman Holter of Middletown.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Leigh Fields and husband, Curtis, of Frederick, and Leslie Gordon and husband, Steve, of Boonsboro, and seven grandchildren, Bradley, Alicia, Colby and Spencer Fields of Frederick, Nicholas and Blake Dougherty and Reed Gordon of Boonsboro.
Kay is also survived by two sisters, Betty Moss and husband, Bob, and Peggy Remsberg and husband, Mac, by a sister-in-law, Nancy Allen and husband, Jim and by many nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Middletown High School with the Class of 1961. She held her old friendships dear.
She was a life long member of Christ Reformed Church in Middletown where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also spent many hours volunteering as a Girl Scout leader, a parent volunteer at her girls' and grandchildren's schools, and for the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Kay devoted every day of her life to her family and friends. She was a natural caregiver. She was a dedicated daughter who spent an enormous amount of time caring for her mother who recently passed away. She was a loving and caring mother rarely missing a day chatting with her daughters. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She will be remembered as the greatest Tannie ever.
Golf was Kay's favorite game and where she met many of her dearest friends. She will be remembered by many.

Services: A memorial service will be held at Christ Reformed Church in Middletown, MD on Wednesday, July 16th at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kay's name to Christ Reformed Church, 12 South Church Street, Middletown, MD 21769.
