Wilbur Stimmel, Sr.
December 24, 1929 — February 8, 2014
Mr. Wilbur Franklin Stimmel, Sr., 84, of Thurmont, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of nearly 64 years to Marie Stimmel.
Born December 24, 1929 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Morris Stimmel and Carrie B. Moser.
Mr. Stimmel formerly worked as a maintenance foreman for the Thurmont Shoe Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Thurmont American Legion Post #168 and the Thurmont Amvets Post #7.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Stimmel is survived by two sons, Wilbur F. Stimmel, Jr. and wife, Jody, of Thurmont; and Scott Stimmel and wife, Darlene, of Charles Town, WV; five grandchildren, Amanda, Joe, Teagan, James and Nina; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, J.J., Karina and Mya; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, where a memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Tim May.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 217 E. Redwood St., 23rd Floor, Baltimore, MD 21202; or to the American Diabetes Association, 2002 Clipper Park Rd., Baltimore, MD 21211.
