Wilbur L. “Bill” Buehrer, Jr., 78, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away from this life on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, MD. He was the husband of Colleen Feeley Buehrer.

Born on June 29, 1945, in Toledo, OH, he was the son of the late Wilbur L. Buehrer, Sr. and Violet (Rotsel) Buehrer and mother, Bay Hawkins.

Bill was a 1963 graduate of Jessup W. Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing.

He then attended Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in Cincinnati, Ohio and became a licensed funeral director in 1968. He went on to serve as president of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association.

Bill was a managing partner, funeral director and embalmer with Walker-Feibach Funeral Home until 1989. At that time, he left the funeral business and joined the sales team of United Family Life (now Assurant) as a regional sales manager. He was responsible for soliciting independent funeral homes to use their preplanning products.

In 1998 he and Colleen were recruited by Stewart Enterprises, DBA Dunbar Funeral Home as the location manager and the aftercare manager. He was responsible for personal sales, recruiting and hiring preplanning funeral directors.

In 2002 they moved to Maryland and joined Stauffer Funeral Homes as the preplanning manager and aftercare coordinator. He eventually retired in 2017 from Stauffer’s after serving as the Preplanning Director for 15 years.

Bill was very active in the Thurmont community. He was elected to the Thurmont Board of Commissioners in 2011 and served for 12 years. He embraced the positive change and was a strong supporter of the Thurmont small businesses.

After being diagnosed with cancer, he focused on the Gateway to The Cure campaign for the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund. He was a driving force for the Gateway to The Cure Golf Classic and he was a huge reason for its success.

Bill was an avid golfer and looked forward to his annual golf trip to Myrtle Beach with his long time Toledo friends.
