Mr. Welford Dale Hudson, 89, of Lewistown, went to be with the Lord Friday, April 10, 2009 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Sylvia Hudson, his wife of 61 years.
He was known to many as Schick, short for the name Schickaba, given to him by his grandson, Chris, when he was a small child.
Born September 19, 1919 in Brookville, Indiana, he was the son of the late Beatrice Hudson and Henry E. Hudson and brother of the late Stanley Hudson, all of Indiana.
Mr. Hudson served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Aidman in World War II in the New Guinea Campaign. His decorations included the Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon with Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with Bronze Star and the WWII Victory Medal. He also received a Citation of Papuan Forces on May 6, 1943.
He was also a member of Lewistown United Methodist Church.
Dale had a passion for building and worked as a construction superintendent for several years at Glenn Construction, as well as other local companies, receiving several awards for his work in construction.
For 10 years, he was the Captain of the Kensington, Md. Volunteer Fire Dept. He was an avid Redskins, Wizards, NASCAR and wrestling fan and enjoyed watching these with his Grandson, Chris. He loved to fish and hunt with his son, Donald. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He will be remembered as a fun loving, hard working, strong man with a zest for life.
Surviving are a brother, Harry Hudson of Indiana; son Donald Hudson and wife Judy; daughter, Jeanne Graves and husband Steve; grandchildren, Bonnie Hudson, Heather Graves (and Samuel Charles), Christopher Graves, Kelly Reed (and Howard Weiss), Eddie Reed (and Tara), Tracey Reed and wife Kim; great-grandchildren, Dereck Myers, Christy Reed, Blake Ashby, and Kyle Reed. Niece Nancy Grigsby and Peggy Floyd and great nieces and nephews Valerie Goodwin, Lisa Grigsby, Brian Patrick Hudson, and Mike Hudson. He will be remembered by many long-time and special friends.

Services: A memorial service with military honors will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Lewistown United Methodist Church, 11032 Hessong Bridge Rd., Thurmont, Md. with the Rev. Elza Hurtz, officiating. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment immediately following at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
