Wayne Smith Starkey, 68, formerly of Severn, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland.
Born on April 3, 1947, in Alexandria, Virginia, he was the son of the late Cecil Starkey, Sr. and Beula (Chinalt) Starkey.
Wayne was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War.
He had been an employee with the Department of Defense for 40 years.
Wayne love to travel, especially he enjoyed Disney World. He also loved to play softball and golf, and he enjoyed down hill skiing. Most of all he was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. (Baynes) Starkey, of Hagerstown, Maryland; two sons, Jeffrey W. Starkey and wife Beth of Surf City, North Carolina, and Brad D. Starkey and wife Kristena of Frederick, Maryland; one sister, Deborah Hudson of Alexandria, Virginia; and two brothers, Cecil Starkey, Jr. of Culpeper, Virginia, and Henry Starkey, of Alexandria. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Jessica and Ryan Starkey.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Monday, October 26, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, Maryland. A celebration of Wayne's life will continue on Monday afternoon at the family home in Hagerstown.
