Mr. Wayne Smith, Sr., 66, of Thurmont, formerly of Frederick, died on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehab Center. He was the loving husband of Linda Smith.
Born January 5, 1949 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Charles and Stella Blizzard.
Wayne attended Linganore High School and was a disabled Vietnam veteran. He was a truck driver with Maryland-Virginia Co-op, until his health prevented him from doing so. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, spending time with family and friends, and cruising with his wife of 22 years.
Wayne was a life member of Amvets Post 7, Thurmont, and a former member of Amvets Post 2, Frederick. He was a member of the Amvets Sad Sack #101 of Maryland and the American Legion Post 282 of Woodsboro.
The family would like to thank Wayne's girls (his nurses and technicians at Davita Center) and Dr. Branislav Romanic, his Nephrologist.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Wayne Smith, Jr., and wife, Loretta; daughter, Crystal Smith; stepson, Ronnie Wingfield and wife, Stacey; sisters, Dorothy Woods and husband, Robert; Jackie DeGrange; Florence Heffner and husband, George, Jr.; and Lynn Coleman and husband, Gus; eight grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Alfred Murray and wife, Debbie; father-in-law, William L. Murray; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered by his longtime friends, Mike Toms and family.
Wayne was predeceased by a stepson, Charles W. Wingfield; a brother, Charles Blizzard, Jr; and his mother-in-law, Margaret S. Murray.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3 from the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Samuel Martz.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Serving as pall bearers will be J.J. Johns; George Heffner, III; Brian Harrison; Shawn Harrison; Kyle Harrison; and Tom Busche.
