Wayne Elmer Lewns, age 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2017 at his home in Walkersville, Maryland. Wayne was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Elmer and Margaret Lewns. He was a graduate of Catonsville High School.
In 1960, Wayne enlisted in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge from the National Guard in 1967, Wayne worked for several engineering firms. In 2001, after 24 years of service, Wayne retired as the Bureau Chief of Utilities for the Carroll County Government in Westminster, Maryland. Wayne served on the State Board of Waterworks and Waste System Operators.
Wayne enjoyed cruising around in his 1969 Camaro. He looked forward to warm weather, sports, car shows, and tinkering around in his garage. He will be remembered fondly by his many car friends.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen, his son, Michael Lewns, daughter-in-law, Patricia, and three grandchildren, Meagan Lewns Mitchell (husband, Derrick), Erin Lewns, and Sean Lewns. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Brandy Klein, and stepson, Colin Klein (wife, Esther and son, Orson); and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family ceremony will be held to honor his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Frederick County Humane Society, Hospice of Frederick County, or the American Cancer Society.
