Wanda W. Metcalf, 87, of Brunswick, Maryland, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.
Born October 16, 1927, in Antioch, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Metcalf and Margaret Ellefritz Metcalf.
Ms. Metcalf was employed by GC Murphy from 1946-1969. In 1969, she moved to Brunswick and began working in the cashiers department of National Geographic where she retired in 1992.
She was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren where she was very active in quilting for the Disaster Relief Auction, served on the kitchen committee, served as Deacon, financial secretary and was involved in the puppet ministry. She was a member of the Historical Committee, the Golden Rule Church Group and the Pleasant Valley Senior Citizens.
Always cooking and filled with love and laughter, Ms. Metcalf enjoyed visiting her family and friends. She loved gardening, playing games, the beach and taking bus trips.
She is survived by a brother, Wallace Metcalf of Knoxville; best friend, Fran Caruso of Knoxville; nieces, Rhonda Metcalf of Hagerstown and Debbie Hubbard (David) of Baker, W.Va.; nephews, Douglas Metcalf of Frederick, Stephen Metcalf of Wheaton, and Gene (Lara) Metcalf of Braddock Heights; great-nieces, Katie (Shane) Hubbard and Mary (Alex) Evans; great-nephews, Alex Metcalf and Sam (Meghan) Hubbard; great-great niece Ella Lubrush; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and a special sister-in-law, Mary Metcalf.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick, Friday, March 6th from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the church Saturday one hour prior to services.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7th at Brownsville Church of the Brethren with Rev. Alan Smith officiating. Interment will be at Brownsville Cemetery and a luncheon at the church will follow.
Memorial donations may be made the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, Kitchen Committee or the church Disaster Auction or to Hospice of Washington County.
