Walter Fleming

Mr. Walter J. Fleming, 93, of Monrovia, MD died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 in Mount Airy, MD. Born January 23, 1920, he was the son of the late Estella E. Shoemaker and Harry B. Fleming, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Jane Fleming; 3 sons, Thomas Fleming and companion Bonnie Blair, Joseph Fleming and wife Leona, David Fleming and wife Debbie; 8 grandchildren, Michelle M. Fleming, Jennifer J. Nichols, Joseph W. Fleming, Alysha D. Fleming, Alina K. Potts, Stephanie E. Potts, Kelley A. Flesher, and Howard A. Zimmerman, Jr.; 4 great-grandchildren, Michael, Bailey, Karleigh, Sawyer; 8 step-great-grandchildren; 4 brothers and sisters, Flora Richard, Harry Fleming and wife Martha, Nellie Brown, and Hannah Knill and husband Wayne. He retired from Bethesda Navy Medical Center in 1982 after 19 years of service as a Animal Caretaker. He served in the United States Army during WWII and discharged honorably. He was a lifetime member of the VFW # 1076 and American Legion Post 191, Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by 4 brothers and sisters, Wilfred Fleming, Gertrude Hulver, Shirley Dubel, and Leon Fleming. Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 4-7 PM at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, MD 21771 and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bush Creek Church of the Brethren,  4821 Green Valley Road, Monrovia, MD 21770. Rev. Charles G. Beekley will officiate. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Bush Creek Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bush Creek Church of the Brethren.
