Mr. Walter Harvey Baker, 83, of Country Meadows in Frederick, MD passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Jean Greenfield Baker for 57 years.
Born November 9, 1933 in Lovettsville, VA, he was the son of the late Harvey Rollins Baker and Emma Cole Baker Hickman.
Walter proudly served his country in the Signal Corp of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was a decoder in Japan. He worked for the Frederick Motor Co. for 37 years, where he retired as the Parts Manager. Walter was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, #1582 and Post #96 of the American Legion both in Brunswick. Walter and his wife traveled to all 50 states and also to Germany, Italy and everywhere in between. He enjoyed wine making, doing puzzles, woodworking, and crabbing.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son John Baker of Stewartstown, PA, daughter Ave Maria Cline and significant other Joe Springer of Boonsboro, MD; grandchildren Jay Cline, III and Troy Cline; brother Charles Edward Baker and wife Sally of Frederick; half sisters Shirley Baker York of Blairsville, GA and Nellie Baker McCandless of Naples, FL. He will be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He will also be missed by special friend Joe Wiles.
He is preceded in death by three sisters Betty Lee Orndorff, E. Louise Phillips and Anna Lee Hildebrand.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick on Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 1-3PM and 5-7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 10AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 4231 Catholic Church RD., Knoxville, MD 21758. Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Jaskot will be the celebrant.
Interment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
