Wallace Wright Metcalf, 97, of Knoxville, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Doey's House in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary L. Miller, they were married on December 30, 1949.
Born on October 16, 1927, in Antioch, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Jacob H. and Margaret (Ellifritz) Metcalf.
Wallace was a longtime member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren, where he served as a Deacon, an Usher and served on the Property Committee and volunteered with the Disaster Relief team. He was employed as a Carman by B&O Railroad (B&O, C&O, Chessie System, CSX) from 1946-1989 first in Keyser, WV. He was transferred in 1965 to Brunswick, MD. Wallace was a member of Brotherhood of Railway Carmen and the Financial Secretary of the Union.
He is survived by his five children, Rhonda Metcalf of Hagerstown, MD, Stephen Metcalf (Stephanie) of Wheaton, MD, Douglas Metcalf of Frederick, MD, Debra Hubbard (David) of Baker, WV and Gene Metcalf (Laura) of Frederick, MD; four grandchildren, Katherine Hubbard (Shane LaBrush), Mary Evans, Alex Metcalf and Sam Hubbard (Meghan) and five great-grandchildren, Ella and Nova LaBrush, Amelia Evans and Emmett and Easton Hubbard. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Cecil, Walter, Claude and Melvin Metcalf and three sisters, Beulah Agnew, Wanda Metcalf and Mildred Slaughter.
A celebration of Wallace's life journey will take place at 11 am on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Rd., Knoxville, MD 21758.
Interment will be private.
