Wallace deWitt, Jr.

Wallace deWitt, Jr. of Glenwood, MD passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Kline House in Mt. Airy, MD.  He was 91 years old.  Born in Erie, PA on 10-06-1920, he was the husband of the late Jean C. deWitt.  He worked for the United States Geological Survey for 47 years. He retired in Dec. 1990.  He was an avid gardener and he volunteered at the Sidling Hill Exhibit Center in Hancock, MD for several years and he was an avid Civil War buff.  He is survived by son, Piet and wife Carole of Pocomoke, MD; daughter Alice of Seymour, TN; son Woody Powell and wife Susan of Hydes, MD, son William of Glenwood, MD, daughter Ellen Farro and husband Marshall of Mt. Airy; daughter-in-law Sandy Dutterer and husband Doug of Mt. Airy; grandchildren James Trussell of Seymour, TN, Jeff Trussell and wife Kim of Maryville, TN, Gretchen Laufer and husband Evan of Eldersburg, MD, Jack Farro of Mt. Airy, MD, Matt deWitt and wife Melissa of Perry Hall, MD, Kelley Welsh and husband Doug of Baltimore, MD, Eric Farro of Mt. Airy, MD, John deWitt and mother Mary Doyle of Eldersburg, MD; Carly and Cory Powell of Hydes, MD; great-grandchildren Dylan Trussell of Maryville, TN, Madison and Kaci Laufer of Eldersburg, MD, Ryan and Brooke deWitt of Perry Hall, MD.  He was pre deceased by his wife Jean C. deWitt, sons Frederick Luke deWitt, Jon Bliss deWitt and Clinton Dewey deWitt.  Visitation will be Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville, Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD 3 pm to 5 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm.  There will be a service on Friday, August 10 at 11 am at the funeral home.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to the Kline Hospice House 7000 Kimmel Road, Mt. Airy, MD 21771.
