V. Leo Sheffer, 87, of Boonsboro, Maryland, died on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born on August 11, 1924 in Downsville, Maryland, he was the son of the late George H. and Kathryn A. (Mills) Sheffer. His wife, Wonnie A. (Grubb) Sheffer preceded him in death in 2009.
In his early years, Mr. Sheffer worked as a Butcher at the Friendly Meat Market on West Franklin Street and was also an employee at Richardson's Restaurant on the Dual Highway in Hagerstown. Along with his wife, he was the former owner and operator of the L & W Battleview Market in Sharpsburg.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police since 1953, A.A.R.P., and had been a member at Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown for 59 years.
Mr. Sheffer is survived by his daughter Sharon Lynne Griffith, and his granddaughter Holly Kathryn Lushbaugh, both of Boonsboro; two brothers, Rodger L. Sheffer of Hagerstown and Dale M. Sheffer of Florida.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Sheffer and M. Jean Sheffer; two brothers, Lawrence Sheffer and Leonard Shafer; one half-brother, Bruce Shafer; and two half-sisters, Irene Rowland and Minnie Hutzell.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Grace United Methodist Church, 712 Church Street in Hagerstown. Rev. Clark D. Carr will officiate. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
