Our beloved Vlasta Vankova Vernon, 96 years old, of Monrovia, Maryland passed away on May 25, 2023. She passed peacefully in her home with her family by her side.
Vlasta was born on April 23, 1927 in the town of Susice, Czech Republic. She was a war bride, marrying her husband, William Vernon (deceased), a soldier in the US army, in 1946. Upon their matrimony, they moved together to Maryland, where Vlasta would live out the rest of her long and wonderful life.
Vlasta was a devoted mother, leaving behind four children, Ben Vernon, Patricia Linton, Michael Vernon and wife Pat, Vlasta Belt and husband Douglas. Three beautiful granddaughters, Danielle Laird, and husband Terri, Vlasta Geld and husband JR, Kirsten Schofield and husband Peter, seven great grandchildren - Julie Boettner, William Boettner, Collin Boettner, Rory Geld, Brinn, Geld, Connor Geld and Luna Schofield, as well as several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Vlasta was a beautiful, and inspiring soul. She was wise, strong-a survivor in every sense of the word- and so full of love and life. Vlasta was also an amazing artist, and leaves behind many beautiful paintings and crafts that she dedicated her life to creating. She was so talented and her art is her legacy. She enjoyed life to the fullest, and took great enjoyment in the simple things; her time spent with family, friends, creating, working in her flower garden, and her birds. She raised birds in her home for many years, and she loved watching the hummingbirds come in for the summer. Her passions in life she as passed down to her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. We will all miss her deeply.
If you would like to make a donation in honor of her name, her favorite charity was the National Seeing Eye dogs.
