Vivian Sherman

December 22, 1924 — June 3, 2012

Mrs. Vivian R. Sherman, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday, June 3,2012, at Lorien Life Center in Mt. Airy. She was the wife of the late Leonard "PeeWee" Sherman, who died in 1976.
Born on December 22, 1924, in New Windsor, MD, she was the daughter of the late Curtis and Nellie Ecker Barnes. Vivian along with her husband PeeWee, operated the Sherman Insurance Agency in Mt. Airy, until his death. Later she formed a partnership with Jay Gaither. She enjoyed gardening,traveling, crafting, bowling and loved small animals, especially dogs. She was a member of the Mt. Airy Garden Club and belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a charter member of the American Legion Post 191 Auxiliary. During her years at Lorien, Vivian loved playing cards with her good friend Jim Luber.
Surviving are 2 children: Sandy Harshman and husband Ron of Mt. Airy and Terry Sherman and wife Diana of Elkin, NC; 3 grandchildren: Curt Harshman and wife Luz of Ormond Beach, FL, Jason Harshman and wife Elizabeth of Westminster and Sabrina Reavis and husband Nick of Elkin, NC; 5 great grandchildren: Nick Harshman, Nicole Harshman, Jennifer Harshman, Kaitlyn Harshman and Tyler Harshman; a sister, Dorothy Reed of New Windsor. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Barnes.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, June 7, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd Mt. Airy, where services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 8, with Rev. Wallace Luck of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren officiating.
Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
