Vivian Cleare

March 30, 1941 — November 9, 2017

Vivian Cleare passed with peace and grace on November 9, 2017. Vivian led a very full life that included foreign travel, being an avid reader of many books, sign language ministry, and mad sewing skills. She loved the comfort of reading or listening to the Bible when read to her.  She was a simple, beautiful, and practical woman. She was so helpful and kind to all who met and knew her.

Over the past 27 years, she beat cancer four times, but on the fifth bout, the Lord called her home.

Survived by two daughters that adore her: Dr. Charisse Cleare of Frederick, MD and Bernadette Allen of Bronx NY (son-in-law Lester Phillips “Phil” Allen Jr.) of Bronx, NY; sister: Luvenia Vincent of Bronx, NY; nephew: Scott Vincent of Manhattan, NY; the Fallen family and the Elam family both of Augusta, GA; and a host of family and friends.
Vivian was born in Augusta, GA and was part of the Great Migration to her parents, the late Lindsey and Luella Vincent.  She spent the early season of her life with distant relatives in Augusta somewhere off Wrightsboro Rd. Her mother went to look for work in the big city and then came back to Georgia to bring her and her sister, Luvenia, to New York City via the train where she was raised in Harlem USA.  She obtained an Associate’s Degree from Bronx Community College and became a nurse, eventually becoming a Registered Nurse. She also attended Augusta College and extensively studied social work. She retired from the VA Medical Center in 1995, and moved to Greensboro, NC in 2000 on a new adventure in life.  She will be always remembered as a loving mother with great passion for life, fiercely independent, encouraging everyone, and having a great sense of humor with a sweet spirit.

She did not like funerals and asked to be cremated. Her family will have memorial get-togethers in Augusta, Greensboro, and New York City to celebrate her life. The family wishes to thank Dr. Brad Sherril of the Cone Health Cancer Center,  Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, the James Stockman Cancer Institute, Hospice of Frederick County, and Dr. and Naturopath Saul Marcus of NYC for their participation in her care.

She leaves us rich in memories. We miss her dearly.
