Virginia Stephens

July 26, 1965 — March 1, 2012

Miss Virginia Ann “Ginny” Stephens, 46, of Monrovia, died on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born July 26, 1965, she was the daughter of Irving E. Stephens of Monrovia and Rosanne M. Stephens of Frederick.
Ginny graduated from Linganore High School in 1983.  She also attended Catonsville Community College and University of Maryland Baltimore County, where she became an accomplished interpreter in American Sign Language.

Ginny lived a very fulfilling life.  She was always willing to help others and do what she could to make their lives easier.  Her hobbies included painting in oils, and the creation of exquisitely beautiful Ukrainian Pysanky eggs.  She was an accomplished chef, baker, and cake decorator and won numerous prizes for her candy and baked goods.  She was especially known for her delicious cinnamon buns…
She was an avid geocacher operating as “JuJu and the Bees”, and especially enjoyed planning and completing the annual geocaching event Cache Across Maryland.  Ginny enjoyed spending time with her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and was always teaching them new things.  She was everyone’s go-to person and was someone everyone leaned on.  She was an avid Capitals Hockey fan.

Ginny will be greatly missed by her surviving family including Tim Stephens and wife Debbie of Frederick, Brenda Deckman and husband Doug of Millica Hill, NJ, Diane Shumaker of Frederick and Paul Shumaker of New Market, Michael Stephens and wife Paige of Boulder, Colorado, Pam Gentel of Frederick; nieces and nephews including Austin Gentel, Grayson Rule, Chris, Derrick, and Dan Deckman, Cynthia and Paul Shumaker, Milo and Harrison Gardner-Stephens, and great niece Brianna Jensen and great-nephew Ryder Shumaker.  She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Clifton C. and Ethel B. Stephens, Maternal grandparents Joseph and Helen Huisman, and cousins Craig Curtis Stephen, and Virginia Consuela “Ginger” Melendez.  She will also be missed by many aunts and uncles too numerous to mention and her beloved cat of 16 years, Cappuchino aka “Cappy”

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD. on Monday, March 5, from 2 – 4 and 7 -9 p.m., where  memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 6, at 11:00 am

After doing so much for others in spite of physical difficulties, Ginny will now collect her eternal reward.
