Virginia Shumaker

Virginia Marie (Sprecher) Shumaker, 68, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 while surrounded by her family and friends.

Born on October 3, 1941, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Louise (Judd) Sprecher.

Her husband, Ellis L. Shumaker, preceded her in death in 1995.

Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to raising her family.

She is survived by her five sons, Lester L. Shumaker of Frederick, Maryland, Douglas L. Shumaker of Sharpsburg, Michael D. Shumaker, Sr. and his fiancé Terri Bearer of Hagerstown, Jeffery E. Shumaker and his wife Doris of Keedysville, Maryland and Herbert E. Shumaker of Sharpsburg; two sisters, Catherine Kline of Smithsburg, Maryland and Betty Lou Rowland of Illinois; one brother, Clarence Sprecher of Illinois; her four grandchildren, Michael, Amanda, Travis and Brittany; and her great-grandson Brentyn.  She is also survived by her best friend, Helen Cross; and her special caretaker, Angie Smith.

Virginia was preceded in death by her infant twin sons, Terry and Jerry Shumaker; and her brother Herbert Sprecher.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. will officiate.  Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg.

Friends may begin visiting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 - 8  p.m.
