Mrs. Virginia L. Smith, 91, of Thurmont, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at St. Joseph's Ministries Nursing Center in Emmitsburg, MD.
Born June 3, 1922 in Shenandoah, VA, she was the daughter of the late Ellis L. and Mary L. Wood. Twice married, she was the wife of the late George M. Shifflett and the late Robert A, Smith, Sr.
Virginia (Ginny) loved reading her Bible and cards from friends. She loved Mother's Day with all her children. She loved her family.
Virginia is survived by four children George M. Shifflett, Sr. and wife Jeanie of Taneytown, MD, Elizabeth A. Keefer and husband Bob of Westminster, MD., Betty J. Graybill and husband Allen of Taneytown, MD and Diana J. Main of New Bern, N.C., Eleven grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and twelve great great-grandchildren, a sister, Pauline Hall of Emmitsburg, MD and her dear friends Shirley Norris and Doris Pointner of Thurmont, MD. She was preceded by one son Louis W. Shifflett, a daughter Mary L. Shifflett Ardnt, a sister Bernice Spurlock and a brother Norman Wood.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont on Tuesday, June 11, from 6-9:00 p.m., where services will be held Wednesday, June 12, at 11:00 am with Pastor Jeff Shaw officiating.
Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
